Metal Insider’s 2013 CMJ Showcase Will Feature Nachtmystium, Byzantine and More
My thought process whilst reading through Metal Insider’s CMJ Showcase announcement was as follows: “Sweet, they got Nachtmystium… how come we didn’t think to approach Nachtmystium for our CMJ showcase?… HOLY FUCK THEY GOT BYZANTINE, DROP EVERYTHING, THIS SHOW IS THE PLACE TO BE!” Which is saying something, because BTBAM and The Faceless are playing that very same night in Manhattan.
I have never seen Byzantine live. They haven’t played NYC in at least six years, if not longer, before Oblivion Beckons came out and before I became a superfan. I always just assumed I’d have to travel to their home state of West Virginia to see them play, or to Indianapolis Metal Fest, since they’ve made it known they’re not doing much touring anymore. Hallelujah! All I have to do is board the G train. Which, admittedly, can be an adventure in and of itself. Tony Rohrbough will not be with the band, which is definitely a bummer, but we’ll get to see the two new band members for the first time.
Of course the rest of the bill is sweet, too. Nachtmystium can be hit or miss live (from positively incredibly to sorta lackluster), but I’ve had more good experiences than bad and look forward to seeing them cap off the night. Black Anvil, Ramming Speed and Vattnet Viskar will also appear. Fantastic bill all around! Kudos to Metal Insider for putting it all together.
The show will take place at Club Europa in Brooklyn on Wednesday, October 16th. Buy tickets here.
