Cloudkicker Announces New Album Subsume for September 14 Release, New Track Out Now
You’ve got to figure Ben Sharp has been inundated with offers from record labels to release Cloudkicker music, right? The guy takes a shit and the metalsphere flips out. But he just loves doing it his own way and doesn’t care to muck it up with record labels. Love it!
As is his style, Sharp has announced Cloudkicker’s latest album with little run-up, fanfare or hype: Subsume will come out on September 14th and will be available via Bandcamp as per usual. But there are a few twists, as highlighted in the blog post announcing the album:
- The digital version of the album will be priced at “$1 or more” (whatever you want to donate) instead of the usual “$0 or more” model. This is because of a quirk in the Bandcamp software that requires some amount of money to be spent in order for users to be notified the instant the album is made available for download on September 14th.
- No CDs this time. Two super-sweet-looking vinyl versions of the album will be available, as well as two sharply designed t-shirts. And of course downloads in a variety of formats, as well as Spotify, Rdio, etc.
- There’s a remix of one of the album’s tracks that’s available to stream right now via Bandcamp and available to download now if you pre-order. The remix was done by Sharp’s brother (who goes under the moniker t16) and it’s a version of the album track “The warmth of the daytime seemed like a dream now;” the remixed version will not appear on the album, so this is your only chance to get it. Cloudkicker released an album/song called Hello in January of this year, but his last full album was 2012’s Fade, IMO his best work to date. Can’t wait to hear what Subsume has in store.
