Jonathan Davis is Also a Romantic Dude
Ten out of ten people with hearing agree: “Never Never,” the first single from Korn’s forthcoming The Paradigm Shit, is a terrible song. And that’s a real problem, because Paradigm is Korn’s reunion with original guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, and is, therefore, supposed to be a “return to form” (whatever that means in this context) — but even the band’s most ardent defenders seems to think “Never Never” is a massive miss.
But FUCK YOU DUMMY, because according to vocalist Jonathan Davis, the band knew you weren’t gonna like it, and it was never meant for you anyway, so na-na-na-boo-boo. He tells Metal Hammer:
“We put this out first cause I knew it was going to piss off a lot of people. And um, so I did it. That song ain’t for dudes, it’s for the ladies.”
This is an incredibly dumb comment, because —
- Why would you WANT to piss off your fans? What did they ever do to you besides make you rich?
- You just implied that dudes can’t enjoy melody and that dudettes are soft.
- I’ve been trapped at a Korn concert. There were fewer ladies there than at any given Pig Destroyer or Cannibal Corpse show… combined. I’m sure Davis finds this new shocking given that he’s written such romantic ditties as “A.D.I.D.A.S.” (which stands for “All Day I Dream About Sex,” in case ya didn’t know) and “Trash,” in which Davis bemoans having a conscience because it makes him feel bad about fucking women and then discarding them. But somehow, this band has failed to attract a One Direction-sized female following.
- What about the lyrics to “Never Never” are women supposed to find appealing, anyway?
Really, this quote just comes off as Davis attempting to make excuses as to why the band released a crappy song that no one likes, the way, say, Lars Ulrich might claim, “Oh, St. Anger was appreciated because it was ahead of its time.” Only Davis couldn’t even come up with a good excuse. It’s as though instead of saying “The dog ate my homework,” he told the teacher “The dog has my homework.” It makes no fucking sense.
