Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt to Curate Roadburn 2014
I’ve yet to get to attend to Roadburn, but I love the idea of a music festival curated by an actual real-live musician so much that I wish it were done more (even though I understand why it isn’t done more). It’s like one of those celebrity Spotify playlists, where you get a real insight into what a musician you admire admires him or herself, but even cooler, because, y’know, LIVE BANDS!!!
So it’s exciting to hear that Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt has been named the curator for Roadburn 2014, ’cause, generally speaking at least, Åkerfeldt rules. And some of the band’s he’s selected to play have already been announced: in addition to Opeth themselves (there’s a no brainer), Windhand, Locrian, The Heads, True Widow, and Kandodo are already confirmed for the bill, with more bands to be announced shortly. So far, so good! I’m hoping at least one of the bands he chooses, though, is totally out of left field. Like, how crazy would it be to find out that Mikael Åkerfeldt loves Naughty by Nature or something? Far-fetched, I know, but a fella can dream, can’t he?
Roadburn will take place April 10-13 at 013 venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Tickets go on sale October 11.
