Neilstein Soundscam

There were no big releases last week, but here in Neilstein Soundscam Land there’s still been plenty of chart movement because a variety of other factors matter! Imagine that.

More sales number this week and every week at Metal Insider.

1. ↔ Norma Jean / Peak: 1 / Last Week: 1 / Weeks On: 4

Albums sold last week: 1,925 (Wrongdoers, week two)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 1.9% (202,117 likes · 3,798 talking about this)
YouTube: 66,000 (“If You Got it At Five, You Got it At Firty” official video)

People continue to rave about their powerful Summer Slaughter performances AND how good the new album is.

2. ↔ Revocation / Peak: 2 / Last Week: 2 / Weeks On: 5

Albums sold last week: 960 (Revocation, week two)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 10.0% (64,110 likes · 6,401 talking about this)
YouTube: 56,000 (“The Hive” official stream)

Exactly what I said about Norma Jean above can be applied here as well.

3. ↔ Black Sabbath / Peak: 2 / Last Week: 2 / Weeks On: 6

Albums sold last week: 5,500 (13, week ten)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 2.1% (8,354,996 likes · 177,000 talking about this)
YouTube: 3.65 million (“God is Dead?” official stream)

Cruising along towards 300,000 albums sold.

4. ↑ Avenged Sevenfold / Peak: 4 / Last Week: 7 / Weeks On: 5

Albums sold last week: 0 (Hail to the King, August 27)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 1.4% Fan Activity (14,416,067 likes · 205,452 talking about this)
YouTube: 3.84 million (“Hail to the King” official premiere)

More YouTube streams than Black Sabbath in less than half the time. Album comes out next week and is now streaming in full, big tour on the horizon, animated series coming soon, etc.

5. Carcass / Peak: 5 / Last Week: n/a / Weeks On: 1

Albums sold last week: 0 (Surgical Steel, September 17)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 4.7% (248,980 likes · 11,605 talking about this)
YouTube: 229,000 (“Captive Bolt Pistol” official premiere)

Carcass are riding a wave of goodwill right now, whatwith Surgical Steel receiving near-universal praise (including from us) and a recently announced string of U.S. dates (including one at the very tiny [relatively] Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn). We’ll see if they can keep it up through album release despite the very early and very public leak.

6. ↓ Chimaira / Peak: 4 / Last Week: 5 / Weeks On: 3

Albums sold last week: [no data] (Crown of Phantoms, week three, sold 1,800 in week two)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 1.6% (279,039 likes · 4,463 talking about this)
YouTube: 107,000 (“No Mercy” official video)

If they’re doing as well on tour as they did in NYC last night — a market that traditionally hasn’t been very kind to them — they’re doing quite well.

7. Ulcerate / Peak: 7 / Last Week: n/a / Weeks On: 1

Albums sold last week: 0 (Vermis, September 17)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 3.8% (10,845 likes · 408 talking about this)
YouTube: 25,000 (“Confronting Entropy” official premiere)

Their FB Fan Engagement percentage is solid for this point in the album cycle, but a band that’s been around as long as Ulcerate has should really have more overall Facebook fans. In any event, buzz is great on the new track so far even if I don’t dig the production.

8. ↓ Amon Amarth / Peak: 1 / Last Week: 4 / Weeks On: 9

Albums sold last week: [no data] (Deceiver of the Gods, week eight, 1,725 in week seven)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 4.2% (552,939 likes · 23,285 talking about this)
YouTube: 862,000 (“Deceiver of the Gods” official premiere)

FB Fan Engagement percentage shot back up after a sharp drop last week and YouTube is still strong, but the band seems to be fading from the U.S. public consciousness a bit. I expect that will change this fall.

9. ↓ Exhumed / Peak: 6 / Last Week: 6 / Weeks On: 3

Albums sold last week: 550 (Necrocracy, week two)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 3.5% (98,100 likes · 3,462 talking about this)
YouTube: 31,500 (“Coins Upon the Eyes” official video)

Good numbers all around for a band of their size. Tour with Dying Fetus coming up this fall.

10. Watain / Peak: 10 / Last Week: n/a / Weeks On: 1

Albums sold last week: 430 (The Wild Hunt, August 20)
Facebook Fan Engagement: 6.66% (110,225 likes · 7,348 talking about this)
YouTube: 92,000 (“All That May Bleed” lyric video)

Holy metal FB percentage!! I’m not sure what albums sold figure represents for last week since the album wasn’t supposed to come out until this week (pre-orders submitted too early maybe?), so we’ll see how it does in its real first week.
