“Everything”: The New Nine Inch Nails Song Sure is, Uh, Upbeat
MS reader Jon M. sent us a link to the new Nine Inch Nails song, “Everything,” with the message “I have no clue what to make of this song,” and I would now like to echo his confusion. It’s not that I dislike the song (I actually dig it quite a bit), but like WHOA, it’s weird. By Nine Inch Nails standards, it feels really upbeat and happy, even when it gets all distortion-y. And there’s a section with a harmonized chorus of Trent Reznors which is just… I mean, this does not feel like the Gloomy Gus we know Trent to be. This song makes me picture him and Robin Finck frolicking on a beach somewhere, which would be, y’know, odd.
But like I said, it is a good song. And at some level, you gotta be happy that the Paxil is finally kicking in for Trent, right? Only took twenty-something years.
