Get In Here For a New Skeletonwitch Song, Album Artwork and Album Release Date!
Skeletonwitch have revealed the name of their new album, its release date, its cover artwork and a brand new song all in one fell swoop. How ’bout that for brevity? These guys don’t wanna waste any of your time with press release after press release revealing tiny non-news tidbits of info.
Serpents Unleashed will come out on October 29 in North America (Oct. 28 EU/UK, Oct. 25 Germany), and that’s the cover artwork above. Look familiar? Of course it does… that’s the signature handiwork of Baroness’ John Baizley, who designed the cover for Skeletonwitch’s 2007 breakthrough Beyond the Permafrost as well. It’s good to know the band’s bus accident hasn’t effected Baizley’s ability to draw in the slightest. The album was recorded earlier this year at GodCity Studio with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Trap Them, High on Fire, etc).
I’ve got high hopes for Serpents Unleashed. The ‘Witch’s 2011 album, Forever Abomination, found the band really coming into their own; it was easily their tightest, most concise, best sounding, most memorable — and, yes — best album yet. Are Skeletonwitch entering a golden era of sorts, or did they just catch lightning in a bottle last time around? We shall see.
Oh hey new song! It’s free to download, but they’re being kind of annoying about it: you’ve got to use your phone to text SERPENTS to 24587 to get it. You can also stream it courtesy of this studio footage music video (filmed at GodCity):
Pre-order Serpents Unleashed digitally via Bandcamp now or physically on CD, audio cassette, three different 180-gram LP variants (black, clear or red) and a limited-edition 7-inch collector’s box via www.skeletonwitch.com.
One final thing: MetalSucks reader Jeff L. has alerted us to the fact that Baizley has posted the full image that appears cropped on the cover via his Instagram account. Here it is:
