The Title Track from Oceano’s Incisions Doesn’t Irritate Me

Guys, I just listened to the title track from the new Oceano album, Incisions, and it was not the worst thing I’ve heard. I know, I know, I’m confused, too. And kind of at a failure to explain why the track doesn’t give me the desire to start a terrorist group devoted to making the entire world deaf as retaliation for allowing this abuse of sound to transpire in the first place.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the track is basically deathcore’s answer to a power ballad — its antecedent may be All Shall Perish’s “Awaken the Dreamers” (although let’s not get carried away here — ASP’s song is wwwaaayyy superior to Oceano’s). As a consequence, the band has actually concentrated on structure, as opposed to their usual approach to writing songs, which seems to be “deliberately eat bad tuna, wash it down with water from Mexico, spray violent diarrhea directly into recording mic.” This may not be the most original or sophisticated song, but it is a song, y’know?
