Unsigned and Unholy: Killing Thing, Anderson Pose, Dysphoria
What do you call it when you know what a band’s going to sound like based on their name? It’s kind of like an onomatopoeia, but not quite. Like, you know a band that’s called Vaginal Disfigurement is going to play brutal death/gore, possibly with a pornogrind spin. So in this case the name of the band is frickin’ KILLING THING and I knew without even pressing play that they’d be in the general vein of Entombedcore bruisers like Nails. That’s a great oversimplification, of course — every band is a special snowflake — but you get the picture enough to know whether this band will interest you or not. My bet is that it will, because you have good taste. Stream:
I don’t even know where to start with Anderson Pose. East of the Wall with Jens Kidman and Sacha Dunable splitting vocals? Yeah, sure, that’s pretty close. Big, skronky, bass-driven progressive passages give way to lighter ethereal stuff without feeling cheesy. Digging the creative video too:
Dysphoria‘s approach can feel a little unfocused at times, but there’s something about them that I’m really, really digging. Their particular harmonic approach to instrumental metal is not one I’ve heard before, and novelty is always welcome here.
