John Dolmayan Accidentally Implies that System of a Down May Never Play in Los Angeles Again
In May, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian went on Facebook and said the only reason there hasn’t been a new SOAD album since 2005’s Mezmerize/Hypnotize double-whammy is because Serj Tankian doesn’t wanna make one — a statement the band almost immediately disowned, saying that the comments “do not reflect the sentiments of System of a Down as a collective band.” Now the will-they-or-won’t-they saga of the band’s new offering takes another somewhat strange term: at the conclusion of the band’s gig in Los Angeles this past Monday night, drummer John Dolmayan told the crowd, “Next time we come back here, we’ll have a new fucking album!”:
This, of course, doesn’t mean anything other than that System of a Down may never play in Los Angeles ever again. Or, at least, for a long time: as Metal Insider points out, “Not only have [the band’s] tours been sporadically scheduled since regrouping in 2010, but so far they only have European dates scheduled for the rest of 2013.” So, yeah, whatever, I guess.
On a semi-related note, I’d just like to type out the name of this band’s guitar player once, because somehow his name has yet to come up during all of these dramatics, and I mean, c’mon, he’s a key part of the band. So: Daron Malakian. Thank you for your understanding while I fulfilled that need.
