“Martyrs”: The New Devil Wears Prada Song is Not Awful
There are some things I write about only out of some weird feeling of obligation, and this is most certainly one of those things. So I’ll keep it brief. The Devil Wears Prada have released “Martyrs,” the fist single for their new album, 8:18, which I’m gonna go ahead and assume is a reference not to a time of day, but, rather, to Romans 8:18:
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Which is a nice message. And I dunno about “glory,” but “Martyrs” certainly won’t make you suffer. The absence of any auto-tune or other instantly identifiable incredibly irritating traits makes the song actually… mediocre. Maybe even fine. Maybe. But definitely the first time I can recall hearing any TDWP and not wanting to pour Drano into my ears. Here, see if you agree:
8:18 comes out September 17 on Roadrunner.
