No More Gridlink Shows? NO MORE GRIDLINK?!?!?!
Is the future of grind gods Gridlink in danger? It’s looking that way. The band announced two shows in Tokyo and Kyoto last week, but someone — presumably vocalist Jon Chang — quickly added a big ol’ asterix on the group’s Facebook page:
Takafumi, of course, is guitarist Takafumi Matsubara, and, yeah, not having him in the band anymore could put a real dent in their future.
One fan responded suggesting that it might be time for Chang get the Discordance Axis fellas back together if Gridlink is done… but then Chang broke that poor dude’s heart, too, by revealing that drummer Dave Witte’s arms ain’t what they used to be (which makes sense — Witte is in his forties now):
Chang later added:
I’m not clear if he means a new Gridlink album or a new Discordance Axis album; if Witte can’t play blast beats anymore, then I dunno how he’d make a D.A. album, but if Matsubara needs “a long break from grind” — the entire freakin’ genre — then I can’t see how he would make a G.L. album. The band had previously announced plans to release a new LP, Longhena, via Handshake Inc. this Winter, but now… who knows.
So yeah I’m gonna go sit in the corner and cry. Motherfucker.
Thanks: Dan
