Video: The Physics of Moshing
Back in February, the Cornell University Department of Physics published a really cool paper entitled “Collective Motion of Moshers at Heavy Metal Concerts,” which — duh — examined moshing through the lens of physics.
Now a mellifluously accented professor named Phil Moriarty — yes, there is an actual Professor Moriarty in the world (although that one wasn’t named “Phil”) — has made a video on the subject. It’s basically an explanation of the principles outlined in the original Cornell paper, but, for speaking as layman, I found it much easier to follow (having brightly colored balls for illuminative purposes never hurts). And even if you did read and completely understand that Cornell paper, well… it’s still fascinating stuff! You can watch it below:
