Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals Unveil Title Track from Walk Through Exits Only
I heard some complaints that “Usurper’s Bastard Rant,” the first single from Phil Anselmo’s first solo album, was too schizophrenic for its own good. Now the album’s title track, “Walk Through Exits Only,” has been released, and I’m not sure it will make those people any happier.
Based on what we’ve heard so far, it sounds as though the prior Anselmo work Walk will most resemble is Superjoint Ritual, whose music sometimes sounded like it was written by a kid with ADHD. (I don’t mean that as an insult, by the way — it’s just an observation.) And Walk may actually end up being even more off-the-chain than Hatred was. Personally, I’m stoked to hear the results, if for no other reason than because it’s something different than what Anselmo’s been doing with Down (I love Down, but variety is the spice of life). You may be totally soured on this record already.
Check out “Walk Through Exits Only” here and see whatcha think. If nothing else, the lyrics are pretty interesting (sample: “Everybody ruins music/ Not just me”). The album comes out July 16 on Anselmo’s own Housecore Records. Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals will headline a tour with Warbeast and Author & Punisher starting at the end of July. Get dates here.
