Metal Nerd Reviews Fast Food, Decibel Magazine
In his high school days, Justin Norton — MetalSucks interviewer extraordinaire and Decibel contributor — had a friend named Robert Dyer. The two bonded over their love of metal (albeit different forms of metal — Justin loved bands like Slayer and Venom, while Robert preferred Stratovarius and Yngwie Malmsteen), and Robert apparently became quite good at the guitar, even launching his own band called — wait for it — Dyer’s Eve (rimshot!).
Alas, as is so often the case, Justin and Robert lost touch after high school. But the story has a happy ending nonetheless: Justin recently sought out his old buddy, and “learned that Robert now has a bustling practice as a fast food reviewer on YouTube.” Here’s a sample of Robert playing Roger Ebert to affordably priced heart attacks on a plate:
Of course, that’s not all that Robert does now: as Justin reports for The Deciblog, Mr. Dyer also “recorded and released an album [Which you can listen to on Spotify. -Ed.]; run for office (as a Republican) in Montgomery County, Maryland… and started a websites to showcase local businesses.” Justin also persuaded him to review the latest issue of Decibel:
Speaking as someone who prides himself on holding onto old pals (Vince and I have known each since we were five; the rest of my inner circle includes friends I’ve known since the ages of ten, fourteen, and nineteen), I find it rather touching to see Justin and Robert reconnecting now, in such a public forum, no less. So I encourage you to head over to The Deciblog, where Justin not only shares more memories of his prep school days with Robert, but also has a lengthy interview with Robert regarding all things metal. As you can probably guess from Justin’s previous interviews and the two clips of Robert above, it’s entertaining as hell. Check it out!
