Why is Pop Group Momoiro Clover Z Playing Ozzfest Japan???
The Japanese edition of Ozzfest is just a couple of weeks away, and will feature plenty of bands you’d expect to see at such a weekend-long festival, including Black Sabbath, Tool, Slipknot, Deftones, Slash, Stone Sour, and Dir En Grey.
It will also feature Momoiro Clover Z, who, as you can probably guess from their promo photo and video, are whatever the opposite of metal as fuck is (“unmetal as shit,” perhaps?):
In fact, the closest to metal these young ladies have ever gotten was having Marty Friedman appear at one of their concerts — which, let’s be real, in this post-Fanta band age, is not really all that metal at all.

So what the hell is this group doing on the bill??? Apparently they’re quite popular in Japan, but still… if there was a new Ozzfest announced in America and One Direction were part of the line-up, you have to imagine that metal fans would riot in the streets (or at least in the comments section of websites like this one). Are Japanese fans really this open minded… or confused about what metal is?
Momoiro Clover Z aren’t even down at the bottom of the bill: according to the Ozzfest Japan schedule, they’ll play after the Deftones, but before artificial vagina enthusiasts Maximum the Hormone.
In conclusion, I continue to be completely fucking baffled by what goes on in Japan.
