There is a New Extol Song, and It’s F*cking Great
The reunion of the classic-era Extol lineup — Ole Børud, David Husvik and Peter Espevoll, 3/5ths of the lineup that recorded 1999′s Burial, 2000′s Undeceived and 2003′s Synergy — is no longer just talk. It’s a really real thing, it’s actually happening, and now we’ve got an album title, artwork, a release date and a brand new song to prove it.
The album will be self-titled (which seems de rigueur these days for reunited bands looking to make a profound statement), and will be released on June 25th by Facedown Records in North America and Indie Recordings everywhere else. That’s Travis Smith’s absolutely gorge artwork above. Here’s drummer David Husvik: “Extol is the album that was planned all the way, but never materialized. Partly due to changes in the lineup, but also because of the band’s urge to always reach for something new. The album is the recap of 20 years of Extolhistory, both musically and lyrically.”
And here’s “Open the Gates,” the first new Extol song we’re hearing in… a lot of years. Wow; I am now even more excited to hear the rest of this album than I already was.
Pre-order Extol here. Facedown Records doesn’t appear to have their act together yet for the North American pre-order, but the Indie store works just fine if you don’t mind paying for the shipping.
