I Have No Idea What the F*ck is Going On in the New Sodom Video
I’ve watched Sodom’s new video for the song “Stigamitzed” three times now and I barely have any idea what I’ve been watching. It’s all shot and edited so haphazardly, and there are so many similar-looking people in it, that it’s almost impossible to follow the “narrative,” such as it is. That might not be such a problem if the narrative was about, like, kids rebelling against parents who won’t let them go see Sodom, but in this case, it’s about terrorists — I don’t know what else you would call them — who are going around doing… something.
But why do the priest and the pedophile pass one another on the street right before a shot of two men kissing? Why is one of those men one of the terrorists — specifically, the terrorist with a fucking swastika tattooed onto his throat? Who kills the other gay man? The Priest gives money to a panhandler with HIV, but he’s later revealed to be part of the League of Shadows, or whatever the fuck they are. So is the band taking a pro- or anti-gay stance? And, much less importantly but just as fucking confusingly, why does the businessman in his 60s have the torso of a guy in his 20s?!?!?!
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that this clip is so moronic. The band’s new album is called Epitome of Torture, and Tom Angelripper pronounces “epitome” as “ep-ee-tomb” throughout the title track. (I’m not kidding at all. “Ep-ee-tomb… of torture!” Over and over and over again. No one could have told he was pronouncing the word incorrectly? Nice friends you have, Tom.) And yesterday, the band released a single in which they spell out their own name repeatedly. So yeah it’s not like these guys are rocket scientists.
The video isn’t embeddable, but you can watch it here (be forewarned, not only is it confusing, it’s NSFW). Epeetomb of Torture comes out May 7 via Steamhammer/SPV.
