Gojira Drummer Mario Duplantier Crowdsurfs… Literally
Things aren’t always oh-so-serious for enviro-death metallers Gojira. The band decided to have a little fun towards the end of their show in Paris this past Wednesday night when they let their roadies take the stage in their stead, under the name “Gojiro,” to play the song “Vacuity.” And I gotta say, they do a pretty good job! About halfway through the song Gojiro pass their instruments back to Gojira, who pick up right where the song left off and finish it up. Check out fan-filmed footage of the incident below:
After all was said and done, Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier decided to crowd-surf — with a friggin’ surfboard!* (which begs the question… where’d it come from, and had he been planning to do this all along?) — and makes it about halfway towards the back of the room before face-planting into the arms of adoring Gojira fans.
