Azure Emote’s Silly Band Photo Belies Their Death Metal Prowess
MetalSucks readers did not much care for Azure Emote last we posted about the death metal collaborative group created by Mike Hrubovcak (Monstrosity, Vile, Divine Rapture, Abraxas). But I really dug what I heard then, and I’m digging what I’m hearing right now from the full-album stream currently posted at Metal Underground, so tough cookies for you.
The project also features members of Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Malignancy, Yakuza, Hate Eternal and a ton of other death metal notables. Musically it’s all over the map; blasts beats give way to choral vocals and violins, which morph into down-tuned guitar chugs before transitioning to some crazy prog break. But the melodies are melody and the songs are accessible enough to prevent the music from just becoming weedily-weedily soup. It’s good shit. Track 2, “Carpe Diem,” pretty much has it all. The Canadian band Unexpect comes to mind as a comparison.
