Saturday To Whig Out To
W’zappenin my wegroes? Hope you’re all having a swell day :)
A few weeks ago the interwebs were abuzz with news of SXSW 2013’s most unusual (known) pairing of artists: dark, moody post-punk outfit that rose in the early 90s The Afghan Whigs and……Usher???
I was curious to hear what this bizarre combination would be like, and personally was super disappointed — not in Usher, girl can sang — but because in that particular performance Greg Dulli’s voice sounded strained, off-pitch, and, well, shite. But it did make me think back to the apex of the Whigs’ era, and revisit certain classic gems. I still love Congregation like it was my own child (maybe the first-ever “alternative” album I got into), and a couple other of their albums are pretty damn good too.
