Before there were blogs there were these things called magazines, and the only metal magazine we still get excited about reading every month is DecibelHere’s managing editor Andrew Bonazelli…

This is one of those occasions where it’s a shame that we don’t have accompanying sleeves for the Flexi Series. Cover art should be mandatory for everything Exhumed put their name on. While they went for the artsy, comparatively tasteful Clockwork Orange approach on 2003’s Anatomy Is Destiny, the majority of their standalone records (they did a zillion splits before ’98 debut Gore Metal) have suitably rancid, decrepit corresponding imagery. You can historically rely on these dudes, Cannibal Corpse and Unsane to bring the gore LOLs.

But for this flexi, you’ll just have to stare at the metallic-silver-on-red plastic and think of, uh, blood spinning, I guess? Anyway, this is another example of a band who took forever to bang out their most recent album (2011’s All Guts, No Glory was our 13th favorite of that year). Frontmaniac/founder Matt Harvey and friends concocted “The Beginning After the End” exclusively for Decibel. It will not appear on their as-yet-untitled fifth full-length, in the works for late spring/early summer.

Fellow Mets fan Vince and I can only hope that our highly touted second-year starter Matt Harvey is as cool as the original. Listen here…

…then grab a copy of the issue with the flexi here, and take it from Vince and me: prepare your barfbags for Opening Day.

The April 2013 issue of Decibel also features Cathedral, Machine Head, Kvelertak, and a preview of MDF. You can purchase it here. But why not just get a full subscription to ensure that you never miss an issue?
