Wat U Think of Dark Sermon??

Wat u guys think of Dark Sermon? eOne is pushing the hell out of these youngins, they landed a spot on this year’s New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, they’re in the running for an opening spot on Summer Slaughter, and there seems to be at least a little buzz behind their new album In Tongues, which came out yesterday.

Here’s the thing about In Tongues: it starts to get good from Track 4 onwards — and by “good” I mean “different than your average Johnny-come-lately Black Dahlia Murder ripoff.” Of course, then, the label is pushing Track 3, a song called “Hounds,” which is a perfectly OK song but not one that really sets the band apart. Here’s the official video for that track:

In Tongues has some really tasty jams in store on Tracks 4-11 for those willing to give it a shot. I especially enjoy those moments when they slow down the pace without relenting on the brutality (“Cursed,” “Forfeit II”). Yes, the Black Dahlia worship [via At the Gates] is all over every edifice of this thing, but it’s well done, and I feel like this is the kind of band that could take things in their own direction once they settle into themselves and discover their identity.
