Stream Zozobra’s Entire New Album Savage Masters Right Now!

Zozobra’s new album Savage Masters is unquestionably their heaviest yet. Could that have something to do with the fact that 3/4ths of the band is now comprised of members of Cave In? Possibly, but I get the feeling that bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield is still in the driver’s seat and the newfound aggression simply represents where his head is at right now. That and six years of pent-up riffs since Zozobra’s last album was released.

Honestly, I kinda liked the old version of Zozobra better. Bird of Prey and Harmonic Tremors were such dynamic records, like a one-two punch of stoney, proggy, hardcore-infused metal. Savage Masters drops all of those descriptors except the hardcore-infused part, and I miss them. These songs are plenty good, I mean, they rip, but… they’re just not nearly as interesting as the band’s past material.
