Lord Have Mercy House
Modern hard rock and pop metal bands seem to make at least one and possibly three of three possible mistakes: they don’t write catchy songs, their lyrics are too self-consciously trying to be badass to be anything but ridiculous, and they dress the way a blind person attempting to look like the members of Mötley Crüe might.
London’s The Mercy House, magically, manages to avoid all of these pratfalls. Their 2012 release, A Broken State of Bliss, obviously owes a large debt to alt-metal acts of the 90s — the Alice in Chains influence is unmistakable — and vocalist Drew Davies tosses in just the right amount of Halford to give it that little extra oomph and make sure that it never veers off into moose rock.
