Slayer/Anthrax Drummer Jon Dette is READY for the CrossFit Games
Those siqq drumming skills that landed Jon Dette gigs in two Big Four bands in as many months don’t come easy; those double-bass chops require the pinnacle of fitness! Dette is a devotee of “elite fitness” program CrossFit and has committed himself to competeing in the CrossFit Games Open, “the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth.” Here’s what the competition’s website has to say about the Games (make sure you also watch the trailer video at that link, which isn’t embeddable):
There is no other true test of fitness
The Games were created to fill a void — no other true test of fitness existed. From Ironman triathlons to the NFL, all other athletic events neglected to accurately test fitness. Even decathlons, while testing a relatively wide range of abilities, missed vital components of physical fitness.
CrossFit Games events are made up a broad range of functional movements. Functional movements move large loads, long distance, quickly. These movements also form the basis of our exercise program. Make no mistake — the CrossFit Games are designed to test, not train fitness. The goal is to find the fittest athletes, not to produce an easily replicable workout program.
Oh ok so it’s like the Olympics except you have to compete in everything? Got it! We’re pretty sure heavy metal drumming isn’t a CrossFit Games event, but that didn’t stop Jon Dette from submitting the below video in advance of the Games’ March 6th start date:
OK, great, but what we really wanna know… how much can Dette benchpress? And if Dette can do all that with CrossFit, just imagine what takelessons could do for our drumming skills.
