Hateform’s Sanctuary In Abyss Is the Best Melodeath Album of 2013 So Far
Finnish melodeath band Hateform, who we spotlighted on the site in January, feature in their ranks two former member of Mors Principium Est. That alone should be enough to make you pay attention since you surely love the latter.
But you know what? I think I enjoy the new Hateform album more than I dig the latest Mors Principium Est (which I definitely do dig too). Is that heresy? Dunno. Just shut up and headbang to Sanctuary In Abyss in full at Inferno.fi right now! It’s the band’s third album and it won’t be released until March 1st, but you can and should give it a spin right this second. It’s rare in this day and age that a melodic death metal band comes along that really knocks us off our feet, but Hateform are that band. It’s like Predator’s Portrait-era Soilwork mixed with Pitch Black Progress-era Scar Symmetry, but with no clean vocals whatsoever. Hateform are fast, they’re heavy, they’re great musicians, and — that bastion of melodeath — they write hella good songs.
