Cinemetal Round-Up: Suffocation Edition
The effort which I put into this introduction is the opposite amount of how much Suffocation rule.
First up, we have the band’s new music video, “As Grace Descends.” It was filmed at the metal-as-fuck Duff’s in Brooklyn, which has been the MetalSucks staff’s home for many a late night. My personal favorite part of the video is the cameo from Moth Eater bassist/Mosh Potatoes author Steve Seabury, who gives an Oscar-worthy performance as “Dude Who Steals Other Dude’s Shot.”
Next we have a video of guitarist Guy Marchais purchasing Suffocation’s new album, Pinnacle of Bedlam (review), in order to demonstrate to fans how to legally purchase music. I know there are people who, for some reason, get pissy every time a musician speaks out against illegal downloading, so I think it’s worth noting that Marchais’ stance is perfectly reasonable: he’s cool with people downloading the album so long as they purchase it if they actually like it, come out to shows, buy merch, etc. That’s a far more realistic request than the usual “pretend torrents do not exist.”
And finally, we have this wonderful video of the inimitable Frank Mullen drunkenly singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise in January of last year. So this video actually isn’t new, but I’d never seen it before, and it’s hilarious, and I wanna get drunk and do karaoke with Frank Mullen so bad now I can’t even tell you. I’ll have to settle for interviewing him.
Thanks: J.A.M. and Matt
