The New Woe Track is One of Their Best Yet
For a band whose lineup has changed from record to record, Woe’s output has been remarkably consistent. What started off as a solo project with 2007’s A Spell for the Death of Man is now a full-fledged band, and mainman Chris Grigg is all the stronger for it: “Withdrawal presents Woe at its strongest; the full potential of its sum parts realized with the fat trimmed,” says Grigg of the band’s third album. “Working alone has its benefits, but working as a band allows everyone to operate at their peak at all times.”
Woe are easily one of my favorite black metal bands to emerge from the U.S. in the past several years, and their newest song only solidifies that opinion. The production here is clear and concise, a strength of A Spell for the Death of Man that was missing on its follow-up, Quietly, Undramatically. Listen to Woe’s new song “Carried by Waves to Remorseless Shores of the Truth” on Pitchfork and judge for yourself.
Withdrawal will come out on April 23 via Candlelight.
