Listen to Puscifer Cover “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Balls to the Wall”
Puscifer’s new EP Donkey Punch the Night is currently streaming over at Spin. I love writer Kory Grow’s description of the band’s cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” as “earnest,” because, in contrast, the Maynard James Keenan-fronted outfit’s cover of Accept’s “Balls to the Wall” just a few tracks later is anything but. How could you really fuck around with “Bohemian Rhapsody,” anyway? The original is perfect, and I’ll bet that re-recording all those vocal layers was a helluva lot of fun (something Maynard confirms in the stream’s accompanying interview). Puscifer’s rendition of “Balls to the Wall” is, to quote Mr. Grow once again, “riotous;” the band’s been performing this song live for some time now but it’s great to hear it committed to record.’
The EP, which also includes some Puscifer remixes and two new songs, comes out on February 19th. Stream it at Spin and make sure you read the rare interview with Maynard that follows as well.
