Geoff Tate’s New Queensrÿche is No Longer a Supergroup
It’s been less than five months since Geoff Tate announced the formation of a his own version of Queensrÿche; they haven’t released any recordings yet, they haven’t even made their live debut, and yet, they have now suffered two line-up changes: drummer Bobby Blotzer has left the band, joining guitarist Glen Drover, who quit in November.
I can’t really remember many other instances of a band shedding members like this when they weren’t even technically active… I think the last time may have been Axl Rose in the late 90s, when Robin Finck and Josh Freese jumped ship long before we even knew they were working on an album called Chinese Democracy. But even those dudes managed to hang in there for like four or five years before going, “Uhhh, this sucks, we outee.” Tate seems to be alienating potential collaborators at a considerably faster rate. Hard to believe, he seems like such a swell dude.
ANYWAY, Drover and Blotzer will be replaced by bassist Rudy Sarzo’s much-less-famous, much-scarier looking brother (nice vag strip, duder), Robert Sarzo (no, Keri Kelli didn’t get the job, frowny face), and everyone’s second-favorite AC/DC drummer, Simon Wright. They join guitarist Kelly “Who?” Gray and keyboardist Randy “Never Heard of Him” Gane.
Sooo, yeah.
More exciting, I guess, is the news that retired Judas Priest K.K. Downing Ty Tabor from King’s X will be making guest appearances on Tatesrÿche’s album, which will be released by Cleopatra Records, whose marketing team apparently has the BIGGEST BALLS in the history of the business.
