Stream Tomahawk’s Entire New Album Oddfellows Right Now!
Here’s Spin.com (now web-only!) scribe Christopher R. Weingarten on the new Tomahawk album Oddfellows, the quartet’s first release in six years:
Oddfellowsis full of dusty Morricone metal, minor-key creep-rock, moonlight tumbleweed swing, Lynchian cabaret doom, whip cracks, and lead belter Patton hitting his hugest, most anthemic melodies since Faith No More’s swan song, Album of the Year.
Stream Oddfellows at Spin right now and you’ll have a hard time disagreeing with any of that. Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard) has always been Tomahawk’s primary songwriter, but the album rocks so hard — and finds Patton at his absolute best — that it’s sure to give fellow lovelorn Faith No More fans like me just the fix we’re all craving. Drummer John Stanier (Battles, Helmet) and new bass player Trevor Dunn (Fantômas, John Zorn, Melvins) bring just the powerful but understated rhythm section necessary to make Oddfellows the best Tomahawk album since Mit Gas… and maybe ever.
Oddfellows comes out on January 29th via Patton’s own label Ipecac and can be pre-ordered here.
