Albums That Will F*ck Your Face Off in 2013: Summoning, Old Mornings Dawn
Summoning
Old Mornings Dawn (Napalm)
Release Date: TBA
Keyboards are often mocked in black metal, thanks to Dimmu Borgir and their ilk (Abigail William’s In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns). But ne’er let Summoning’s keys be taken from them, for they make the duo’s “Tolkien black metal” echo triumphantly from their Austrian countryside. And thanks to Peter Jackson’s new trilogy of Hobbit movies, the time is right for a new Summoning masterpiece of synth brass, foggy war drums, and odes to war dead. Enter Old Mornings Dawn.
For the seventh Summoning set, Protector (né Richard Lederer) and Silenius (Michael Gregor) have already wrapped riff-writing and Protector’s half of the vocals. While Dawn‘s cover art was unveiled last week, a release date and teaser will follow the completion of vocal tracking. So expect Dawn to arrive in time to be blasted as you first click play on your The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey blu-ray.
