Tiny Orange Amp Saves the Day for Mastodon’s Troy Sanders
I’m not as intimately involved with the gear community as I used to be, but I do know this: Orange Amps are all the rage right now! I have yet to play through one, but what I find fascinating (and awesome) is that, unlike most past amp trends (i.e. the Mesa boom of the late ’90s / early ’00s, or the Krank explosion of Ozzfest Summer 2005), Orange Amps don’t seem to be closely associated with any specific genre of metal; you’re as likely to see the guy in Evanescence or Slipknot using one (as Jim Root does) as you are a member of Down, Kvelertak, or the local doom or crust band that’s playing at your town’s metal bar any given weekend.
Count Mastodon’s Troy Sanders as a fan, too; Orange has released a short film of sorts to promote their new Micro Terror mini-amp in which all six (!) of Sanders’ regular stage heads simultaneously break before a gig and the day is saved by a Micro Terror-toting black lab. Sanders doesn’t play guitar for Mastodon which makes his role here a bit odd, but the lads in Mastodon are always funny and certainly don’t shy away from the TV commercial camera. Kudos to everyone who put this short together… it’s hilarious.
