Phil Anselmo’s Solo Sh*t is Going to be CRAZY
I was listening to Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill last night, which I haven’t done in awhile, and it got me thinking — “Gee, wouldn’t it be killer to hear Phil Anselmo do some shit that is just crazy-heavy and crazy-crazy again?” I mean, don’t get me wrong, I frickin’ love Down, but there’s no room for a “Sandblasted Skin” or “Living Through Me” with that band, let alone anything that might have been in Superjoint Ritual’s wheelhouse.
Which is why Amazon’s new audio samples of Anselmo’s solo contributions to an upcoming split with Warbeast, War of the Gargantuas, so delight me: they sound just, like, completely fucking fucknuts. Obviously, it’s hard to judge from so brief a section of a song, but it sounds as though Anselmo is about to release the aural equivalent of a broken glass bath.
Listen here and see what you think — Anselmo’s contributions are the songs “Conflict” and “Family, ‘Friends’ and Associates.” The Warbeast tunes sound cool, too, but let’s be real: all eyes are gonna be on Anselmo with this one, this being his first solo outing and all. The split comes out January 8 on Anselmo’s own Housecore Records.
