The New Alice in Chains Album is Finished, Due in 2013
A new Alice in Chains album is in the bag. Last we heard, back in May, Jerry Cantrell revealed that one of the most important heavy bands of all time had completed writing a new album… and now, just like that, the recording sessions for said album have ended, according to Guitar World.
Like many Alice in Chains fans, I was completely bowled over by Black Gives Way to Blue, AiC’s 2009 comeback album. Not that I thought it would be bad, but I don’t think anyone predicted it’d be as good as it ended up being. It’s gonna be a tough act to follow, a fact that’s not lost on Cantrell: “It’s like having to deal with the sophomore jinx for the second time in our career,” Cantrell tells Guitar World. Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney (but let’s be honest, really just Cantrell) had fourteen years to write the songs on Black Gives Way to Blue… now that the pressure’s on and they’ve had to do it in just one, will the results be as good?
I remain cautiously optimistic; it’s a tall order, but if anyone can do, it’s Jerry. Presumably we’ll hear this thing at some point during the first half of 2013.
