Announcement: The Best Young Writers Contest, Open to Aspiring Writers Aged 14-20
We know that many in the MetalSucks readership are aspiring writers. If you feel like that describes you, and you’re between the ages of 14 and 20, please take a moment to read this PSA about a new effort being spearheaded by MetalSucks contributor Tres Crow, he of the infamous, psychedelic mind-trip blog post “The Mastodon Beard.”
Shire Reckoning Publishing House and Dog Eat Crow Magazine have launched The Best Young Writers contest, a search for the next generation of American letters. Are you a poet? A novelist? A non-fiction writer? It’s all fair game. The contest is open to U.S. residents between the ages of 14 and 20, costs a mere $4 to enter, and offers the following prizes:
- $1000 1st prize
- $400 2nd prize
- $100 third prize
- 20 runners-up who will be published in a Best Young Writers 2013 anthology

The submission period runs until May 31, 2013. Winners will be announced in July of 2013.
We hope to see some of the MetalSucks faithful in the running come July of next year.
