JBJ Soul Kitchen: I Wanna Lay You Down on a Bed of Good, Cheap Food

We mock and love Bon Jovi with equal fervor here at MetalSucks (or at least I do), but this is actually kind of a cool idea: a restaurant with no prices so customers donate what they can or volunteer if they don’t have the funds.

JBJ Soul Kitchen is a non-profit community program run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. The Foundation’s main aim is to help families and individuals in times of economic crisis. Their mission is to assist those affected by poverty and homelessness and also to provide food, housing, and provide opportunities for job training programs. The JBJ Soul Kitchen is one organization within the foundation.

The appreciated donation for a meal at the JBJ Soul Kitchen is ten dollars, and said meal comes with three courses, starting with either soup or salad, a main dish with your choice of meat, fish, or veggies, topped off with dessert. A sample menu is available here.

Located at 207 Monmouth St, Red Bank NJ, the Kitchen was one of the many resources people turned to during Hurricane Sandy. They served over three-hundred dishes following the aftermath and went as far as to deliver to people who couldn’t make it there.

Metal is a community, just like any other, no matter who’s involved. Communities help each other out. If you want to donate or volunteer to work there, all the information is on the official website. Or if you just happen to be in New Jersey and want your lunch money to go to a good cause while stuffing your face with pork chops and apple chutney, stop by. No reservations necessary.
