CILICE ARE IN THE STUDIO
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Dutch progressive metallers Cilice: in December of 2010 the band announced Bryan Ramage as their new vocalist (replacing Daniel de Jongh, who left to join Textures) along with a re-recorded version of the band’s track “Left/Right Hemisphere” featuring Ramage on vocals. And then… nothing. 2009’s Deranged Headtrip was a banger of an album, but in metal your momentum is only as good as what you’ve done lately, and that was nearly four years ago.
But Cilice have finally resurfaced: they’re in the studio working on a new album, and they’ve just put out their second “in the studio” video. Watch:
The video is really long for these kinds of things; I find that studio clips are most effective in 2-3 minute chunks, and this one tests my patience, although there are some cool bits of music in there.
Here’s what MS reader Andrew I. had to say about it:
[Cilice] had their own angle and some legit chops in the djent realm. However, I am not hearing much progress in this video update. Now, this stuff sounds tired and unexciting even though these guys strike me as talented dudes.
I can’t say I totally disagree with his assessment, although I think that it’s way earlier to be writing off an entire album based on a few studio clips. What do you think?
Cilice are appearing at the 3-day Euroblast Festival in Cologne, Germany later this month.
