FULGORA: ADAM JARVIS NOW OFFICIALLY IN TOO MANY GOOD BANDS
Adam Jarvis is so selfish! He’s already in Misery Index and Pig Destroyer, both of whom are great, and you’d think that would be enough for the dude. But no, now he’s also in ANOTHER band, Fulgora (presumably named after the Roman goddess of lightening), who, if their new track “Risen” is any indication, are also kick-ass. Jesus H. Christ dude, give other drummers a chance!
I’m not sure that Fulgora — which also features guitarist/vocalist B.L. LaMew and bassist John Jarvis — fit neatly into any one box, subgenre-wise; their music isn’t really straight-up grindcore, but it will certainly appeal to grindcore fans, as well as death metal fans and maybe even more metallically-inclined hardcore fans. Of course, it doesn’t really matter what you call it, ’cause it’s, y’know, good. The band’s sound is just the right balance between sharp/vicious and chunky/bludgeoning; it should go without saying that Jarvis’ drumming is top-notch, but I wasn’t familiar with the other members of the band before now, and they’re obviously no slouches, either. And the song just seems to get better and better and heavier and heavier as it progresses, which is never a bad thing.
Stream Fulgora’s “Risen” below. It and a song called “Artifice” will appear on a 7″ that should be out later this year; it was mixed and mastered by Jarvis’ PxDx bandmate, Scott Hull. Fulgora’s debut full-length is tentatively scheduled for a 2013 release. In the meantime, you can keep up with them on Facebook.
By the way, since I haven’t mentioned it in like ten seconds: if you live nearby, come to our CMJ showcase next week! Pig Destroyer are headlining, so you can see Jarvis make his drum kit his bitch live and in person. Tickets are on sale here.
