FIFTH SACRUM PROFANUM TRAILER: NERGAL IS A DIPLOMAT

“Who granted us the right to resolve all the world’s problems?” Nergal wonders in the latest trailer for his autobiography, Sacrum Profanum.

This is actually the trailer I like the least so far. Nergal makes some good points xenophobia, but the tone of the actual trailer portrays an Asian community the way the makers of the Taken franchise might: seedy, scary, the infamous “Other.” In other words, the visuals of the trailer are at odds with its message. I suppose it would, well, weird if the trailer didn’t hint at danger and exoticness, because it’s selling a book by a metal musician, and metal musicians are not usually well known for their happy-go-lucky natures. That being said, the locale could have been portrayed in way that was exciting but non-threatening, or, better still, the trailer could have employed irony by portraying a more “mainstream” Western culture as seedy and scary. Just my two cents.
