ELEPHANTS MARCHING RIFF OF THE DAY: NEW ABIOTIC TRACK “HEGIRA”
I felt a little let down by the first track to be released from Abiotic’s new album after I’d gotten super-amped on a new music video the band had released earlier this year. The Miami death metal troupe’s recent signing with Metal Blade was a big deal, but the first track “To Burgeon and Languish” felt scattered and disorganized.
Abiotic are back with a new track today called “Hegira,” and they’re well on their way to redemption. It’s an instrumental tech-death masterpirce that delivers exactly what I was looking for out of this band.
The track starts with Obscurian / Facelessian-style tech-death consisting of super-tight, synchronized lead guitar and drum blasts, shifts to siqqly heavy Acacia Strainian breakdown sections, then meanders its way through nearly three minutes of back and forth between the two styles climaxing with a spiffy guitar solo. Things get really interesting around 3:25 when all but one clean guitar drops out of the mix… and then BOOM, elephants marching right up in your dome, right on through the end of the song.
Check out “Hegira” over at Guitar World then come back here and tell us what you think. Symbiosis is out October 22 on Metal Blade Records and can be pre-ordered at this location.
