NEW JEFF LOOMIS SONG: “DEATH METAL TYPE STUFF” IS DEATH METALLY
Back in June we got extremely excitebike when Jeff Loomis touring guitarist Joe Nurre contacted MetalSucks to tell us that he, Loomis and producer Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) were heading back to the studio to record some “death metal type stuff.” We got even more excitebike later that month when Jeff played one of those tracks live on the MetalSucks-sponsored Intrinsic Tour.
And now’s your chance to hear that “death metal type stuff” up close and personal:
“A Liar’s Chain” also features Anup Sastry (drums) and Greg Macklin (bass), meaning Jeff’s entire touring band plays on the track. Loomis offers:
I had so much fun recording ‘Surrender’ with Ihsahn on vocals for my last solo album that I wanted to do more songs like that.
Joe Nurre, who has been playing guitar in my band for the last year or so, has a pretty killer death metal voice, so I thought it would be perfect to do some more stuff like this with him as well as the rest of the guys.
Good stuff, eh? I loved Loomis’ solo record Plains of Oblivion, but it is fun to hear a human voice every now and again even if most metal vocalists are irrelevant.
The stream comes via Metal Hammer Germany. As far as we can tell there are two more tracks like this in the tank and Loomis plans to release them all digitally, although no official means or date has been announced.
