“NOSTALGIC ECHO”: OLD INTRONAUT IS NEW AGAIN (… NEW AGAIN… NEW AGAIN…)
Certain folks I know swear by old Intronaut and claim the new stuff sucks. I think those folks are idiots (even if they’re in the small minority), not because I think new Intronaut is so much better than the old stuff but because I believe all eras of Intronaut music slay in equal measures. And it’s not as if their new stuff is that much different from the old stuff anyway, ala Metallica, Baroness, Morbid Angel, etc. This band kicks ass all the time, plain and simple.
Case in point: “Nostalgic Echo,” from 2006’s Void, could easily fit right alongside “Sunderance” or “The Literal Black Cloud.” Those big Intronautian riffs, fretless bass runs, shimmering guitars and proggy structure are all there. Those elements were even present on the 4-track demo version of the song the band dug up from the vaults and released this past weekend. Check out that demo version below. Here’s what the band had to say about it:
Some really old recordings were just found during a move, and we thought this might be an interesting listen for fans.
This is a demo version of the song “Nostalgic Echo” from our 2006 album Void. Recorded sometime in 2005 to a 4-track cassette machine using a drum machine and a small practice amp. Basically we came up with some of these riffs in the jam room and then demoed the song structure on the 4 track. This is something we still do, but we have upgraded to far less primitive recording gear!
Hope you enjoy it. We have a ton of other old obscure and early recordings that we might upload if there is enough interest”
Yes please! Interest, right here!

Say, Intronaut are due for a new album pretty soon as it’s already been two years since Valley of Smoke came out. The band released some footage of themselves writing new material back in August and promised a new record in 2013, but we haven’t heard any news since then.
