WATCH SOME NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN LIVE FOOTAGE OF PIG DESTROYER
So we’ve gotten some complaints recently that we haven’t spent enough time discussing Pig Destroyer, their forthcoming album, Book Burner, and their upcoming appearance at the MetalSucks/Metal Injection/1000 Knives CMJ Showcase. “I read MetalSucks every day and I didn’t even know PxDx had a new album coming out or were returning to New York City!” one reader opined via email. I hope that no one interprets this dearth of promotion as a lack of interest on our part; we’re fully aware that we should be writing about Book Burner and the CMJ gig more often, and mean to do so ASAP.
And Metal Injection‘s new, never-before-seen live footage of the band’s last show in the New York area, at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple in 2009, seems like a good excuse to do that!
Above is a clip of the band performing “Piss Angel” (you can tell it’s “Piss Angel” because vocalist J.R. Hayes says at the beginning, “This song is called ‘Piss Angel’”); below is another, of the band tearing through “Fourth Degree Burns.” Fun fact: Scott Hull later utilized the same sample at the start of “Burns” for the end of Agoraphobic Nosebleed’s “Moral Distortion.”
Pig Destroyer’s Book Burner comes out October 22 on Relapse; pre-order it here. The aformentioned third annual MetalSucks/Metal Injection/1000 Knives CMJ showcase on October 18 will be the band’s first NYC-area appearance in more than three years; support will come from KEN Mode, Early Graves, and Encrust, and tickets are on sale at this link. You can watch even more previously-unreleased live footage at Metal Injection.
