SYNCHRONICITY II: THE DARKNESS BY BAND OF HORSES
It’s my goal to like every band on earth but some really do not cooperate, all cranking out shitty songs and posing like bonerface phonies (see: this). But this wknd I got a jolt of satisfaction in this girl’s car when we reached the end of a super-nice jam and she told me that it was by Band Of Horses, a band I associate with Emperor’s-New-Clothes hipster bullshit and my ghastly old job in publicity. But the jam was tasty! Achievement unlocked 100+!
Then then THEN just moments later, my new quantum of respect for BoH became a bucketful of respect when The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins (also enjoying some synchronicity) internetted BoH’s new cover of “Love Is Only A Feeling” from his band’s 2003 debut. It so happens that I’ve been thinking about that jam a lot lately, cuz it represents a pretty clear refutation of at least one writer’s recent assertion that the whole Darkness experience is a joke. To this song I look and think, “Frequently tongue in cheek? Yes. A joke? Shit no!” Cuz to me the jam is a heart-rending masterpiece. And now I get some back-up from Band Of Horses of all places (here at 42:17). Thanks beardos!!
