SYNCHRONICITY I: DID U SEE TOOL, RUSH, SOAD, PRIMUS DUDES JAM?
Clockwise from top left: Danny Carey, Les Claypool, Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland are high
Coincidences are so fun! To wit, this wknd I was veggin’ out w buds who regularly watch one of those unscripted shows on basic cable about picking through junk for treasure; y’know, American Cockroach or whatever. “You would like at least one episode,” my dude told me. “One scavenger discovers a drum set, and takes it over to his friend’s pad for an appraisal. That friend turns out to be The Police drummer Stewart Copeland, your boner bud.” Awesome!
The funny thing is that on that very morning, I’d been thinking of Copeland. Whoa total coincidence: Awared by ace Rolling Stone writer Greg Prato, I had headed to Copeland’s youtube channel and its exclusive video treasury of all-star jamz at his home studio with guys like oh pfft Neil Peart (Rush), Larry LaLonde (Primus, The Possessed), Danny Carey (Tool), Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), Les Claypool (Primus, Oysterhead), Foo Fighters brahs, Jeremy Piven! (Entourage), and more heavyweights. Post-jam, Stew then chops and overdubs — and video is deftly edited — but the full rush of semi-sloshed improv with your pro pals is gloriously evident. Don’t know that feeling? Jonesing for contact high? Just love expert performance? Then click play below!
