TEENAGE MUTANT A-CACIA TURTLES

Earlier this year, Cattle Decapitation offered pre-order bundles for their album Monolith of Inhumanity that came with merch featuring illustrations of the bands’ members as Garbage Pail Kids; now The Acacia Strain are doing something similar with another pop culture phenomenon from the 80s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and their forthcoming album Death is the Only Mortal.

 As much as I love The Acacia Strain, I don’t think these items are nearly as cool as the aforementioned Cattle Decap swag. The latter band actually hired Tom Bunk, one of the original artists for the Garbage Pail Kids, to design their stuff; TAS did not acquire the services of original TMNT creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, I’m guessing because those dudes are off in Hollywood making millions with Michael Bay and would probably want enough money to feed every metal musician in America for one year to even consider sketching Michelangelo on a napkin.

That being said, I’ll never fault anyone for their love of the old Ninja Turtles cartoon series (upon which this merch is clearly based — as opposed to the orignal comics or one of the movies or whatever), and this is still like a gajillion times better than most pre-order bundles I’ve seen this year.
