METALLICA “CRIES” ABOUT THEIR DEEP PURPLE COVER
There’s a Deep Purple tribute album coming out called Re-Machined – A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head (see what they did there?), and seeing as Deep Purple are one of three bands people usually name when asked “Who was the first metal band?” (the other two being, duh, Zeppelin and Sabbath), it will surprise no one to learn that there are a few metal bands/musicians on the compilation — including Iron Maiden, Black Label Society, Chickenfoot, and Metallica. And now Metallica’s cover of “When A Blind Man Cries” is available for streaming below and I’m writing about it. Yee-haw.
So the good news is, Metallica didn’t write this, so it’s a lot better than, say, “Unforgiven XII.” The bad news is, James Hetfield’s voice still make my testicles want to flee the country. So, yeah. This isn’t exactly awesome, but it could probably be way worse.
Re-Machined – A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head comes out September 25 on Eagle Rock Records.
