MARYLAND DEATHFEST 2013 LINEUP BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE (IHSAHN! PIG DESTROYER! CARCASS! MORE!)
Maryland Deathfest X took place barely two months ago, but already a killer slate of bands has been announced for the fest’s eleventh (!) incarnation in 2013.
Earlier this month the festival organizers announced that Pig Destroyer, Loss, Broken Hope, Repulsion, Pagan Altar, Vinterland, Weedeater and Gride would appear next spring in Baltimore, and today we’ve learned of another group of excellent bands confirmed for the fest:
Ihsahn, Exodus, Benediction, Iniquity and Glorior Belli. What’s more, the festival’s organizers promise to reveal more headline-caliber bands in September.
If you read this site often, you know that of all the bands announced so far Pig Destroyer and Ihsahn get us the most excitebike of all. Pig Destroyer haven’t toured the U.S. in I don’t even know how long and Ihsahn’s only performed here once in the past four or five years (at least year’s ProgPower festival). Those alone would be worth the trip to Baltimore, but even if the rest of the bands already announced comprised the entire lineup, Maryland Deathfest XI would be a can’t-miss event.
Due to the closure of The Sonar, the longtime home of MDF, the location of next year’s event is still to be determined. One request: please, PRETTY PLEASE, let this year’s fest be on some weekend other than Memorial Day Weekend. There’s still time to change it. Despite being a three-day weekend (or likely because of it), that weekend is always rife was conflicting interests (family obligations, weddings, visitors from out of town, circumcisions, exorcisms, etc) and I can never attend. Others must share in this frustration. Do it a different weekend, guys, please!
